Microsoft/Bogusky @ Fast Company

It’s taken me about a month to get around to writing a quick blurb about Fast Company’s June cover story about Alex Bogusky’s $300 million Microsoft account. In general, I think Microsoft has always had a hard time spending its way out of poor public perception – the addition of advertising wunderkind Bogusky’s Crispin Porter + Bogusky will not help. Some people consider Fast Company to be a pro-Microsoft publication and they might be right but writer Danielle Sacks takes the time to note that she sees no PCs anywhere at Bogusky’s HQ, and that the only Microsoft product evident is an XBox 360 which the Microsoft account leads, Andrew Keller and Rob Reilly, use as a wireless hub. Is the Bogusky crew disigenuous or just pragmatic? Again, Microsoft is an easy target.

What was really interesting is how Crispin Porter + Bogusky was financed by parent company, MDC Partners – it’s a great lesson in how not to sell equity in your company.
