Lewis Black is a Comedy Central favorite, a frequent guest on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and has been a regular fixture in the New York comedy scene for decades. #33: John Mulaney – “New In Town”

Writer, standup comedian, and performer John Mulaney has been writing for “Saturday Night Live” for years and Tina Fey name-checked him in her best-seller, Bossypants. He’s a prolific creator and his newest special, an hour of standup on Comedy Central called “New In Town,” aired at the end of January and was released a week later on DVD/iTunes. I talked with John a week before the premiere about how he put the show together as well as how some of the bits originated. He’s a very funny guy so I hope you look for it to be repeated on Comedy Central or check out the DVD. The guy’s brilliant and I hope to see more of him this year.


#32: SF Sketchfest – Janet Varney & Cole Stratton

Janet Varney and Cole Stratton are the Los Angeles based duo who make up 2/3 of the SF Sketchfest co-founders/producers. SF Sketchfest has an incredible calendar of events this year and Varney and Stratton give us the lowdown on how they organized Sketchfest and what they’re most looking forward to this year at the festival, which is easily one of the best in the United States. Varney and Stratton are also performers, writers, and creators in their own right so check out Janet and Cole’s websites to see their other projects and accomplishments. #31: Paul Scheer

Paul Scheer, currently playing André on FX’s “The League,” and the creator of, and star of Adult Swim’s “NTSF:SD:SUV” talked to us earlier this summer about “NTSF” and what makes Adult Swim so great. We also touched on Paul’s podcast, How Did This Get Made, “The League,” and lots of other cool stuff. He’s a super nice guy in addition to being a comedy genius. Comedian, voice actor, chameleon genius, Maria Bamford generously gave us an hour of her time to talk bout comedy, her work on the fantastic animated series “Adventure Time,” and how she approaches creating her amazing characters. You’ve seen her on The Comedians of Comedy documentary as well as “The Sarah Silverman Program,” and countless spots on late night TV like “The Tonight Show,” and very recently “Conan” – I was so very lucky to speak with this amazing artist. We talked to actor, writer, comedian, creator Michael Ian Black (@MichaelIanBlack). You know him from “The State,” “Stella,” “Ed,” “Michael and Michael Have Issues,” and Wet Hot American Summer. countless movies. He was also a part of Joshua Malina’s web series “Backwash” with whom he started the YouTube channel #SadSadConversation. We talk about how SadSadConversation came about as well as how he prepared the material for his excellent new comedy album, Very Famous.


#28: Interview with Joshua Malina

We talked to actor, writer, producer, creator Joshua Malina (@JoshMalina). You know him from “Sports Night,” “West Wing,” “In Plain Sight,” and countless movies. He also created the web series “Backwash” and he started the YouTube channel #SadSadConversation. We talk about how SadSadConversation came about as well as Josh’s amazing work in front of the camera. You will see Josh in the upcoming ABC series “Scandal.” This recording was done in June of this year by phone.
