Gigs This Weekend! Albany, North Adams, Boston

Friday night, May 11, I will be headlining a show at Pinto & Hobbs in Albany, NY, with Mo Haskins, Kristin LDV, and hosted by Jeff Crawford. I’m really looking forward to this as I like Mo a lot and I want to do a show with Kristin before she leaves the country, such a talented girl. The show is free so tell friends you kno win the NY Capital District.

Saturday I’m performing at a benefit in North Adams, MA, at the Greylock Community Club. This is a collection of a great group of comics including Matt Kona, Sharkee Katz, as well as featuring the organizer, Mark Jagiello, who is a great local comic of renown here in the Berkshires. Tix are only $10 and the funds go to support a local dancecapade team, so it’s a worthy cause.

I get to go to Boston on Sunday to perform at the Stand-up Sundays show at Improv Boston. This is a great show and I’m fortunate to return to this legendary venue. It’s only $10 and this is their equivalent of a “pro” comics show, so the performers will be very good.

We will have 3 pro comics from Boston and a collection of regional comics opening for them. Did I mention it was free? You have no excuse not to go!

I have found a venue and willing partner to create a new weekly open mic show in the Berkshires. The location is Rumpy’s Tavern, 16 Church Street, Lenox, MA and the show is entitled: Happy Fun Time All-Star Comedy Variety Show and it will happen every Sunday from 8-10pm. Rumpy’s has great drinks and food, it’s a great, intimate space with low ceilings, literally underground, underneath the Village Inn.

I’m looking for comics and/or musicians to perform at this open mic so please contact me if you would like to perform.

An interview with comedian Jo Koy of “Chelsea Lately”

Over at SCPR I posted a very enjoyable interview that I had with comedian Jo Koy who has appeared on “Chelsea Lately” several dozen times. His 2nd hour-long Comedy Central special, “Jo Koy: Lights Out,” premiered on Sunday, April 1st. I enjoyed the special quite a bit, Koy’s act focuses a lot on his family and his son and the material is very different from what he does on the E! late night show, I urge you to check out the special the next time it runs on Comedy Central, which will probably be again sometime this week. He was an incredibly friendly guy on the phone, I hope to meet him in person sometime as well as catch his act. If you look at his schedule, he primarily does theatre shows which is testament to his success, the last time he came through New England, he did the Fox theatre at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut but I imagine he would be really great in a club so I’m a little torn on which type of venue I’d want to see him at.

Proud to be a part of @AbolishCancer “Cancer’s No Joke” Campaign

This week I got asked to participate in Abolish Cancer’s April 1st, “Cancer’s No Joke,” campaign, along with the excellent comedians Sarah Colonna and Josh Wolf of “Chelsea Lately” fame, along with actress Fran Drescher. Coincidentally, I’ve interviewed all three of them in the past: Sarah Colonna, Josh Wolf, Fran Drescher.

The purpose of the campaign is to get more people to do mouth swabs for bone marrow donation matches. There will be a build up to the date of April 1st so you’ll see more posts about #CancersNoJoke here as well as on my @tomdog and @TheTVJunkie Twitter feeds, and my Facebook page. It’s pretty amazing that we have the capacity to save somebody else’s life just by getting connected to them at the right time. My #ChannelZero interview with John Mulaney

Writer, standup comedian, and performer John Mulaney has been writing for “Saturday Night Live” for years and Tina Fey name-checked him in her best-seller, Bossypants. He’s a prolific creator and his newest special, an hour of standup on Comedy Central called “New In Town,” aired at the end of January and was released a week later on DVD/iTunes. I talked with John a week before the premiere about how he put the show together as well as how some of the bits originated. He’s a very funny guy so I hope you look for it to be repeated on Comedy Central or check out the DVD. The guy’s brilliant and I hope to see more of him this year.
